At-risk California homeowners have been taking advantage of foreclosure prevention efforts extended by the Hope Hotline, according to a promotional flyer from the Homeownership Preservation Foundation.

Between January and August of this year, the famed hotline has received 167,924 calls from California homeowners, resulting in 38,894 counseling sessions.

That’s up from 84,215 calls and 12,699 counseling sessions in 2007, making California the most counseled state in 2008.

California cities accounted for three of the top 10 most counseled cities, including Los Angeles (#1), Riverside (#3), and San Diego (#10), not surprising given the number of foreclosures in the state.

The Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF) is a member of foreclosure prevention alliance Hope Now, which has prevented more than two million foreclosures since July 2007.

Since January 2008, HPF has received 616,877 calls and completed over 187,000 counseling sessions.

As always, if you are need of assistance, you can contact 888-995-HOPE to speak with a counselor free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
