In our continuing series of fun with graphs, we look at the top ten mortgage originators in the fourth quarter of 2007, thanks to data provided by National Mortgage News.
As usual, mortgage lender Countrywide took the top spot with $68.5 billion in loans, down from $94.6 billion in the third quarter and $121.9 billion a year earlier.
Wells Fargo came in a semi-close second with $56 billion, down from $68.1 billion in the third quarter and $86.8 billion in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Chase claimed the third spot with $50.3 billion, down from $51.1 billion in the third quarter but up from $44.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2006.
The top ten rankings were nearly unchanged from a quarter earlier, aside from SunTrust overtaking IndyMac for the ninth spot.
MortgageDaily.com had previously released a preliminary view of the 2007 data, with numbers slightly different than those compiled above.
Q1 2008 numbers should be out next month once earnings season wraps up.
